Milano

My first experience in Italy was a trip to Milan. Although it didn't feel like I was going to Italy for the first time because I am constantly around Italians, it was still a different place than Geneva.

The first thing I noticed was that I was no longer in the land of a thousand languages (Geneva), but there is only one language spoken and that is Italian.
In Milan I had great Italian home-cooking, pizza, pasta and tortellini soup. I got to see the city including the Duomo (Cathedral), La Scala theatre, Sforzo Castle, and shopping centers. I was excited I actually got to see a real castle! I had never seen one before...we don't have those in the Northwest.
On Sunday I went to the football match in Milan, Inter vs. Parma. Maria, the girl in the office, thought it was silly for me to want to come to Milan to watch a football match, but that is exactly what I was doing. It was a very exciting game, Inter winning 5-2, for my first European match.
To finish the trip we ate at a Pizzeria, where everyone orders a whole pizza just for themselves. And I don't know how they are able to eat a whole pizza, but they do, and I cannot. They also believe it is somewhat offensive to take leftovers. On the other hand, I very strongly believe in taking the doggie bag. But I resisted and it was difficult to leave delicious pizza to be thrown away.

All in all, it was a fantastic first experience in Italy, and there is much much more to come!
